1. What exactly is Reflexology and what benefits does it provide?
Reflexology is the theory that the foot, face, hands and ear provide a map for the rest of the body. During a treatment of say Foot Reflexology, reflex points on these are stimulated to bring the body back into balance or homeostasis.
Â
It’s a great therapy for improving sleep, releasing tension, calming moods, relaxation and it promotes your wellbeing too! You will experience a deep sense of calm and relaxation.
2. What happens during an appointment and how long does it last?
During the first session, we go through a brief and general health consultation together, you have the opportunity to ask any questions before getting you comfortable on the treatment couch. For the session itself, you lie on your back, supported with pillows, bolsters and blankets, take your socks off and let the magic begin! I usually play calming music but it's not essential. Sessions usually last one hour. I do offer 90 minute sessions for those recovering from operations or chronic ill health.
3. Are there any conditions that Reflexology is particularly good for?
Reflexology is not a curative or diagnostic treatment and there is no scientific evidence to show it helps any condition. However, by allowing your body to switch off and let go of stress and tension, it is more able to heal and repair, sometimes reducing any symptoms of ill health.
4. How should someone prepare for a session and is there any aftercare at home?
No preparation is needed. After a session, make sure you time to take it easy, drink plenty of water and keep the relaxation going!
5. Are regular sessions required or will one be enough?
Regular sessions are required if you are in a chronic state of stress. 4 – 6 weekly sessions will help supporting you to better wellbeing. My clients then reduce their sessions to bi-weekly or monthly to keep them in tip top health and happiness!
6. How do you determine which areas you need to focus on?
I determine which areas to focus on by listening to my client as they arrive at my treatment room, and by watching their body language. I intuitively know what areas need more attention.
7. What other therapies work well alongside Reflexology?
Reflexology can be used along side any other therapy. The only thing about having several therapies at once is you don’t know which is working best for you. Less is more. I have clients to come to me for several sessions of Reflexology, then go off for a weekend retreat, then come back once that feeling of wellbeing needs a little boost!
